Need Clarity? ASK!
I recently completed a Corporate Fast with my church. We fast as a congregation three times a year. The one in January is always the longest, a five day fast.
Every year, leading up the fast, I have mixed thoughts and emotions. I am both excited and nervous. I am excited about the new revelations and what God will reveal to me. I am nervous about the fast itself. How will I feel? How hungry will I get? (I don’t like to be hungry). What will others think about me if they find out I am fasting.
So I found myself ASKing lots of questions before and during the fast. So, before the fast I prayed and asked God, 'how should I fast'? Should I do a full fast, water or liquids only, or a Daniel diet (no meats, no sweets)? Should I fast social media, or the use of electronic devices? All these questions. I finally settled on how and what I would fast.
In the end, I felt led to do a modified food fast, Daniel diet for 3 days and liquid diet for the last 2 days. I would also fast how I use my smartphone. I chose to only use my phone primarily for calls and text messages. That meant, I could not use it for email, social media, web searches, or general entertainment.
Ok, now that my questions have been answered, it's time to start the fast.
Fast forward to now, I'll say I learned a bit about myself during that week. I’ll share some things I learned at another time.
For now, I am curious. What questions have you asked yourself or God lately? How have the answers led you to where you are today?
